What is it?

A multidisciplinary framework of study leading to an original body of practical work, for example an innovative collection of women swear, mens wear or children wear and or children wear and or accessories, a technological investigation into new methods with prototypes, or a dissertation on a design-based subject. The concept for the final diploma project is proposed and negotiated by the student.

Who is it for?

Self-motivated individuals with flair for designing looking to develop both their career prospects and their intellectual potential in a specialist aspect of fashion design building on their natural flair.

Course Content

The 3-year Diploma in Fashion Design and Technology will be across three levels:

Year One

The course will commence with a one week orientation program that aims to introduce the students to the course, modules, assessments, study facilities and development of generic abilities. An industry visit scheduled is to give a general feel to the students about their future work environment.

Students undertake the study of Crafts Documentation to gain an in-depth knowledge about various craft which can act as an inspiration for their final design collection. It can also increase the commercial viability of certain craft which are limited to the interiors of that particular state.

Year Two

Level Two aims to promote professionalism, technical expertise and design excellence. It also introduces the students to the various commercial aspects of the apparel industry.

This level focuses on preparing the students for apparel industry and further develops their ability to work independently, evaluate and analyze their own development through various semester projects.

Year Three

Students will undertake an 8-week industrial internship, which provides them with relevant work experience; the opportunity to consolidate and practice their knowledge and ability. During this phase, the students will seek to deepen their knowledge base and develop a professional approach, enabling them to play a responsible role in a team situation. The students’ internship is monitored by the institute to ensure progress.

In this level students will also prepare for their final project under tutorial guidance. It aims to consolidate and implement the creative and technical experiences learnt during the course along with their industrial experience.

Future Prospects

Graduation of Diploma in Fashion Design have an acknowledged advantage in the employment market, obtaining work in a wide in wide range of vocational and academic fields related to fashion. They will be in position to gain employment as innovators within the broad field of fashion design and technology and may identify a fashion house, large corporate company or alternatively choose to build their own identity through the launch of their own design label. Further employment opportunities include Fashion Coordinators, Visual Merchandisers, and Fashion Illustrators, Trend Analysts, product Development Managers, Technical Designers, Pattern Makers, Cost Analysts and many others which are lucrative and have tremendous scope of growth.
